Alberto Contador of the Astana team won the 15th stage of the Tour de France in the Swiss Alps on Sunday.
Contador took his first stage victory of the Tour and secured the yellow jersey after attacking a small group of riders 3.2 kilometres into the stage.
The group contained favourites such as Lance Armstrong and yellow jersey contender Andy Schleck, who did try unsuccessfully to respond to Contador’s offensive. He finished 43 seconds behind Contador.
Contador’s teammate, Lance Armstrong, who has won the Tour seven times, finished 1 minute 35 seconds behind the Spanish cyclist.
