While bees all over the world are dying in hoards, hives are sprouting up all over Paris’s rooftops, balconies, parks and gardens. Fewer pesticides and a wider variety of plants and trees are helping bee colonies thrive here.

Rendezvous visits a teaching apiary run by the Central Apiculture Society to help children understand the importance of apiculture and looks at the “Bee, sentinel of the environment” programme which encourages urban bee-keeping. Both remind us that bees are not just about honey, but are as crucial as sun and rain in ensuring our food supply.
