Sarkozy invites Niger coup leader Djibo to summit

France has invited Niger junta leader General Salou Djibo to attend a two-day Africa summit in Nice. The invitation was announced on state television on Tuesday.
"We welcomed the 5 May decision on the transition [to civilian rule] and I told [Djibo] that France was ready to help with this transition," French diplomatic aide Andre Parant to President Nicolas Sarkozy said on television.
Parant was referring to the junta promise for the country to return to civilian rule within the next year.
President Mamadou Tanja was deposed in a bloodless coup earlier this year after he removed constitutional limits on his term in office.
In releated news, a delegation from Niger will travel to Brussels to ask to unblock 370 million euros worth of aid.
