France considers extradition request from Benin over poison allegations
Issued on: Modified:
A French court is currently considering an extradition request for Patrice Talon, a Benin businessman who lives in Paris, to be sent back to Cotonou. The authorities in Benin want to question him in connection with an alleged plot to poison President Boni Yayi. The story has generated heated debate in Cotonou, especially after investigating Judge Angelo Houssou decided that there wasn't enough evidence to press charges. Houssou has now himself run into trouble with the authorities and has been put under de facto house arrest. RFI spoke to Benin lawyer Nourou Dine Saka Saley who believes the roots of Houssou's difficulties are political.
