Bolivia recognises Palestine
Issued on: Modified:
Bolivia recognised Palestine as an independent state Friday, following the lead of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Bolivian President Evo Morales charged that "genocide" is being committed in the Middle East and called on the international community to acto to prevent it.
Morales said his government would send a letter to Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas, recognising Palestine as "an independent and sovereign state”.
Speaking during a visit to Paraguay, Morales said Bolivia would officially notify international institutions of its decision next week.
Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay recognised Palestine as an independent state earlier this month, a move which prompted Israel to complain.
