Can supercomputer predict events that shake the world?
Issued on: Modified:
New research in the United States has shown that feeding a "supercomputer" with news articles could help predict major world events. The study, based on millions of news articles, tracked national sentiment in Libya and Egypt ahead of the recent revolutions and says it could have predicted the uprisings. Although the analysis was carried out retrospectively, scientists say the same process could be used to anticipate future events. Kalev Leetaru from the University of Illinois' Institute for Computing speaks about his findings.
