In Myanmar, the opposition National League for Democracy, NLD, was absent from the opening of the new parliamentary session. The NLD wanted to change a word in the swearing-in oath to "respect" the constitution rather than to "safeguard" it. The constitution was drawn up by the country's former junta which had annulled the NLD's election landslide victory and jailed many of its members. Khin Maung Win is the executive director of the Norway-based Democratic Voice of Burma. He told RFI the disagreemnet is not too serious.
