Thailand's navy has denied reports from Reuters news agency and Human Rights Watch, that it is involved in human trafficking. Criminal defamation charges have been launched against two Thai journalists who wrote about the report. Many of the victims are said to be Rohingya Muslims, fleeing Myanmar, where they say they continue to be persecuted, and are discriminated against by local authorities and neighbours. A Rohingya activist and blogger who lives in exile in Europe, Nay San Lwin, says the Rohingyas think life cannot be worse for them outside Myanmar, even if they end up in slave-like conditions.
