Thousands to protest ahead of G8 Deauville meeting
Trade unions, left-wing parties and anti-globalisation campaigners are set to demonstrate in the French Channel port of Le Havre on 21 May, a week before the G8 summit in nearby Deauville.
Organisers hope to mobilise up to 10,000 protesters “for a festive and dynamic
demonstration aimed at pointing out to the leaders of this world their contradictions," according to Christian Pigeon of the French union grouping, Solidaires.
The demonstration will be followed by a meeting on economic austerity measures in Europe, rebellions in the Arab world and the nuclear disaster in Japan, and a concert on the Saturday evening.
