Frenchmen steal ambulance after road accident

D Finnan

Two Frenchmen who were injured in a road accident in Belgium made off in a stolen ambulance after being taken to hospital, local officials say.

The two men, both in their 30s, suffered minor injuries while travelling on the motorway between Ghent and Antwerp, the prosecutor's office says.

After being taken to be treated at a hospital near Antwerp, they allegedly stole a receptionist’s handbag.

“Then they could find nothing better to do than to get into an ambulance and flee the scene,” a spokesperson said.

The two were due to appear in court Thursday, after being caught shortly after they allegedly committed their crimes.
