Frédéric Loridant

The French rocker Johnny Hallyday is an alcoholic, according to a French newspaper that got access to his medical records. It is claimed the “French Elvis” was placed in an artificial coma at the end of last year not because he was in danger of death, but because a dependence on alcohol.

L’Express says Hallyday presented with symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and delirium tremens.

The cardiologist is reported to have said Hallyday had consumed “incredible” amounts of alcohol.

Hallyday, 66, was hospitalised for an infection after a slipped disc operation last November. There were fears for his life after a coma was induced.
