Self-styled “poet climber” Hervé Couasnon evaded security to reach the roof of the US embassy building in Paris on Thursday.

Emergency services put a security cordon around the embassy and a safety net fearing the 54 year-old bus driver might fall from the edge of the roof.

Couasnon told media via telephone after scaling the building that he wanted to meet Barack Obama to give him his CV and talk peace as the US President tours the Middle East.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach Couasnon where he was straddling metal railings on the edge of the roof and coaxed him to come down without resistance.

Couasnon’s previous stunts include sneaking into France’s National Assembly and a nuclear power station.
