Tomato sauce robber steals French pensioners credit cards

A cunning robber used tomato sauce to prey on elderly residents of the wealthy French town of Versailles. The 64-year-old man used the condiment as part of a trick to rob pensioners’ credit cards.
After being arrested on Friday, the man confessed to spotting his victims in supermarkets, noting their Pin codes at the checkout and following them home.
There he would pour a jar of tomato sauce on their doorsteps and ask for help to clear it up, in reality a ruse to enable him to steal the victim’s credit card.
The scheme earned him a total of 17,000 euros, he told police, but it had not worked on younger people.
A second suspect, aged 25, was arrested with him but released for lack of proof.
