Euro 16: Football much more than a game in Lens

One of the 10 host cities for Euro 2016 is Lens, a small northern French town with an iconic club. "Racing Club de Lens", founded in 1906, grew and prospered thanks to the mining industry. Its fans are renowned for their undivided devotion.

So much so that Louvre-Lens museum is running an exhibition on its supporters. Meanwhile the town - population 33,000 - is preparing to welcome up to 10 times that number during the competition. A golden opportunity to put Lens on the map but which comes along with security concerns.
