Honda rider Marc Marquez won the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez on Sunday to move to the top of the championship standings.

Tech 3’s Johann Zarco finished a distant second after a crash took out Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso.

Suzuki’s Italian Andrea Iannone finished third ahead of Danilo Petrucci and Valentino Rossi.

Pole sitter Cal Crutchlow dropped to fourth early before crashing out of the race and retiring for the consecutive race.

Lorenzo took an early lead in the race before getting passed by Marquez.

The Spanish rider extended his lead steadily with Lorenzo, Dovizioso and Pedrosa battling for second place.

However, on lap 17 the three riders came together in a huge crash that ended their race.

As a result Frenchman Zarco inherited second place finishing more than five seconds behind Marquez.

Marquez leads the championship ahead of Zarco by 12 points.
