I had been working at Paragem for almost a week. That morning, I was in the office of Stéphane Petibon, the office manager. He was explaining to me how he had met Madame Catherine Leblanc and how she had suggested to him that they start the Paragem Company. I was trying to understand what he was telling me when someone knocked on the door. It was Madame Leblanc herself…

Dialogue 1

(on frappe à la porte)

Stéphane Petibon :	Oui, entrez… Ah, Catherine ! Bonjour !
Catherine Leblanc :	Bonjour Stéphane. Comment ça va ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Ça va, merci.
Catherine Leblanc :	Ah, Danielle ! Vous êtes ici. Tout va bien ?
Danielle :	Tout va bien, Madame.
Catherine Leblanc :	Isabelle est là ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Non, elle est en Espagne.
Catherine Leblanc :	Ah oui !
Stéphane Petibon :	Oui, elle est à Madrid.
Catherine Leblanc :	Et Philippe ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Il est au Japon.
Catherine Leblanc :	Au Japon ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Oui, oui, il est à Tokyo.

"Isabelle est en Espagne, à Madrid."
"Philippe est au Japon, à Tokyo."
"A Madrid, à Tokyo, à Paris, à new York ". Of course, you have to use the preposition "à" before the names of cities…
"En Espagne, au Japon, en France, aux Etats-Unis…" while before the names of countries, you use the preposition "en" if the country is feminine, and "au" if the country is masculine.

(Un peu plus tard, toujours dans le bureau de Stéphane Petibon)

Danielle :	Que fait Isabelle à Madrid?
Stéphane Petibon :	Elle rencontre nos grossistes. C'est le salon européen de la pharmacie et nous avons un stand, le stand Paragem.
Danielle :	Où est Isabelle ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Elle est sur le stand Paragem !
Danielle :	Le stand ?
Stéphane Petibon :	Oui, c'est là où les visiteurs passent pour rencontrer Isabelle, pour avoir des échantillons.

I had no difficulty imagining the beautiful Isabelle at the "stand Paragem" (the Paragem stand) convincing visitors of the advantages of mosquitorepellent products.

Isabelle Mercier :	Monsieur Petibon, bonjour, c'est Isabelle.
Stéphane Petibon :	Quelle Surprise ! Ça va ?
Isabelle Mercier :	Très bien Monsieur Petibon... Monsieur Petibon, j'ai besoin de 100 échantillons supplémentaires.
Stéphane Petibon :	Vous avez besoin de quoi ?
Isabelle Mercier :	J'ai besoin de 100 échantillons supplémentaires !
Stéphane Petibon :	Elle a besoin de 100 échantillons supplémentaires !
Danielle :	Elle veut encore des échantillons !
Stéphane Petibon :	Eh bien Isabelle, les affaires vont bien !
Isabelle Mercier :	Très bien, nous avons 3 nouveaux clients et beaucoup de demandes d'échantillons.
Stéphane Petibon :	Très très bien, je vous envoie les 100 échantillons aujourd'hui en express.

The Paragem products seemed to be having a great success at the European pharmaceutical fair, probably thanks to the charm and dynamism of Isabelle Mercier… She needed 100 more samples :
"Elle a besoin de 100 échantillons supplémentaires."
Well, I already knew what I had to do : send the hundred additionnal samples by express mail…

Philippe Cadet :	Oui, c'est moi.
Stéphane Petibon :	Où es-tu ?
Philippe Cadet :	Je suis en France.
Stéphane Petibon :	En France, tu n'es pas au Japon ?
Philippe Cadet :	Eh non ! Je suis à Paris, à l'aéroport !
Stéphane Petibon :	Ce n'est pas possible !
Philippe Cadet :	Mais si, c'est possible ! Je ne suis pas au Japon, je suis en France !
Stéphane Petibon :	Philippe, ça va ?
Philippe Cadet :	Non, ça ne va pas.
Stéphane Petibon :	Les affaires vont bien au Japon ?
Philippe Cadet :	Les affaires ne vont pas bien.
Stéphane Petibon :	Tu rentres au bureau ?
Philippe Cadet :	Non, je rentre chez moi, je suis fatigué...
Stéphane Petibon :	Bien, à demain.

"Je ne suis pas au Japon, ça ne vas pas, les affaires ne vont pas bien ..."
Philippe Cadet is "Mr bad shape", nothing is going right for him, his trip to Japan seems to have been a failure… Discouraged and exhausted by a long trip, he's going home :
"Je rentre chez moi..."
