Politics and religion in Sudan

In Sudan, thousands of religious groups with links to the government - an Islamist movement known as Al-Harakat Al-Islamiyya - have met in the capital Khartoum. Reformers among them believe Sudan's Islamist regime has drifted from its religious roots. Some are even calling on President Omar al-Bashir to leave office. Harry Verhoeven, an expert on political Islam told RFI that this influential movement has become critical of Bashir and the ruling party.
