Central African Republic rebels meet government in Libreville
Issued on: Modified:
Rebels in the Central African Republic continue to insist that any peace deal with the government must include the departure of President François Bozizé. The country's leader and the rebels are due to attend negotiations in Gabon's capital, Libreville, in an attempt to solve their stand-off. The rebels control most of the country and seized two more towns on Saturday. South Africa has meanwhile authorised the deployment of 400 soldiers to the Central African Republic. Alex Vines, Research Director of African Politics at Chatham House in London, comments on the unrest and about the possible outcome of this week's talks.
