Armyworm threatens crops in Zimbabwe

Today the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is holding an emergency meeting in the Zimbabwean capital to try to halt the spread of armyworm, a highly-damaging pest.

Zimbabwe is one of three countries in southern Africa which are fighting an outbreak of a kind of moth, known as armyworm – the others are Malawi and Zambia.

These moths could make a bad food situation worse for Zimbabweans in the months to come.

And as correspondent Columbus Mavhunga reports from Harare, farmers in Zimbabwe say President Robert Mugabe’s government is taking its time to deal with the problem.
