US Secretaries John Kerry and Chuck Hagel both active in Middle East

The United States secretary of state John Kerry was in Turkey this weekend to take part in a 'Friends of Syria' meeting in support of the Syrian opposition. Kerry also met Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to pursue US efforts to patch up relations between Turkey and Israel. At the same time, the new US Defence Secretary, Chuck Hagel, is in the region to finalise a 10 billion-dollar arms deal which includes sales to Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
