Suu Kyi advances lawsuit against Myanmar junta
Issued on:
Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has signed an affidavit at the Supreme Court in Yangon as part of a lawsuit against Myanmar’s ruling junta.
The National League for Democracy was disbanded after it decided to boycott the country’s election to protest against rules that seemed to be designed to prevent Suu Kyi from taking part in the vote. Suu Kyi, who was one of the party’s founders, filed a lawsuit against the disbanding in October, but it was dismissed. Now she is filing a second suit.
Suu Kyi was released on Saturday, six days after the country’s election. Since being released, she has called for non-violent revolution against Myanmar’s military rulers.
