French paedophile arrested in India
A fugitive French paedophile has been arrested in India after police there found him working as a tourist guide. 53-year-old Eric Martin fled whilst on bail after being sentenced to 15 years in prison by a French court for offences against children in an orphanage he ran.
Martin was then the subject of an arrest request from the international police organisation Interpol, which tracks fugitives.
Police in the Indian city of Chennai say they discovered he’d been in the area for four or five years and was living in a rented house, whilst working as a tourist guide.
It’s believed he may have entered India illegally from Nepal in 2001 and changed his name to Jack Fernandez to avoid detection.
Police are now investigating if he has been involved in any offences while in India before deciding if he can be immediately extradited.
