Three Gulf monarchies recalled their ambassadors from Qatar in an unprecedented escalation of tension with fellow-members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The three countries accuse Qatar of interference in their internal affairs because it is a perceived supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is banned in most Gulf states.
