Factfile on Benfica and Bayern Munich ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg between the clubs at the Estadio da Luz on Wednesday:
First leg
Tuesday, April 5
At Munich
Bayern Munich (GER) 1 (Vidal 2) Benfica (POR) 0
Form:
Bayern are expected to see off Benfica and reach a fifth consecutive Champions League semi-final, but the stubborn resistance of the Portuguese champions after Arturo Vidal's early goal in Bavaria has kept them in the tie. Bayern are closing in on a fourth successive Bundesliga title after their 3-1 win at Stuttgart on Saturday was followed by Schalke holding second-placed Borussia Dortmund to a 2-2 draw. Pep Guardiola's defending champions are now seven points clear at the top and cruising with just five games to go, and are still hoping to replicate the treble they won in 2013.
Benfica have had an excellent few weeks as seven straight wins in the league have taken them two points clear of arch rivals Sporting in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Their defence held firm to keep Bayern down to just a single goal last week, and they showed signs of being dangerous on the counter-attack through the strike partnership of Jonas and Kostas Mitroglou, who have scored 53 goals between them this season. Rui Vitoria's men scraped past Academica Coimbra 2-1 on Saturday as a late Raul Jimenez strike maintained their slender lead in the Portuguese title race.
