US rapper Freddie Gibbs went on trial in Austria on Friday accused of sexually abusing a girl half his age in his hotel room after a concert in Vienna last year.

Gibbs, whose real name is Fredrick Tipton, 34, was extradited in late July from France where police arrested him on a European arrest warrant before a gig in the southwestern city of Toulouse.

According to the charge sheet reported by local media Gibbs took the 17-year-old and a 16-year-old friend back to his hotel after a concert in Vienna on July 5, 2015. It said both girls had been drinking heavily backstage and their drinks were possibly spiked.

At the hotel he is alleged to have had sex with the 17-year-old, who was too intoxicated to react or defend herself.

The girl made the claims after having flashbacks of what allegedly happened eight months later. Gibbs, released on bail in August, denies the charges. He faces up to 10 years in jail if convicted.

"There is no objective proof that Freddie Gibbs had sex with this woman," his lawyer Thomas Kralik told Austrian media.

"Independent witnesses like the hotel receptionist and a hotel guest have stated that the women were tipsy but definitely still able to walk on their own two legs."
