Thieves broke into the Paris Museum of Modern Art overnight, making off with five paintings worth half a billion euros, according to police on Thursday. Amongst the booty were a Picasso and a Modligiani.
The elite Brigade de répression du banditisme is investigating the case after workers found a broken window and padlock earlier this morning.
Robbers were caught on CCTV and one person was seen on the tape going through the broken window, but the person or persons remain at large.
The five paintings include Le Pigeon aux Petits Pois by Picasso, Pastorale by Matisse, The Olive Tree near Estaque by Georges Braque, Woman with a Fan by Amadeo Modligiani, and Still Life with Chandeliers by Fernand Léger.
