Hello everyone!

Tune in on Sundays, at 4:22, 5:52 and 7:22 universal time, for the quiz question ... and whatever else is cooking up in the Sound Kitchen.

This week’s question was read on 22 January, and was about the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards, which had just taken place. One film won three awards … Best Musical Comedy, Best Musical Comedy Actor, and Best Musical Score. I asked you to send in the name of the French-directed film that won three awards at the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards in January …

And the answer is: The Artist. It was directed and written by Michel Hazanavicius. The Best Actor award went to Jean Dujardin, and the winner for the Best Musical Score category was Ludovic Bource. I saw it and it is charming! It’s a mostly silent movie, about the end of the silent movie era and the beginning of talkies. As New York Times critic A.O. Scott wrote: “ … it’s a dazzling cinematic objet d’art … a generous, touching and slightly daffy expression of unbridled movie love.”

The winners this week are: Mrs. P. Vijya Bharathi, from the DW Listener’s Club in Hyderabad, India; Mr. Chitturi Vamsi, also from Hyderabad, India; Muhammad Nasyr, from Katsina State, Nigeria; Sr. Miguel Angel Lahera Rivero, from Holguin, Cuba, and Miroslav Siles, from Kosice, Slovakia.

Congratulations, winners!

This week’s question is about Iran, and petrol. Iran just announced it will halt oil exports to two European countries … probably in response to the European Union’s decision to cut off Iranian oil imports, and freeze central bank assets, beginning in July.

The two countries affected by the freeze, however, depend little on Iranian oil, so analysts think the stoppage is a mostly symbolic act. The two nations targeted have been especially strong in trying to halt Iranian nuclear enrichment. Other European nations depend far more on Iranian oil; so far, Iran has not taken action against them.

The nation is deeply dependent for foreign currency from oil sales, and may be reluctant, according to analysts, to deprive itself of revenues from its larger European customers, when its economy has already been damaged by existing sanctions. Or, say the analysts, Iran may be seeking to divide the 27 – nation European Union between those who depend on Iranian oil, and those who do not.

So my question to you is, unsurprisingly, to which two countries has Iran frozen oil exports?

Send me your answer by 26 March; the answer and the winners will be announced on the 31 March programme. Be sure you send your postal address in with your answer … and be sure and tell me if you are a Mr. or a Mrs. or a Ms. or a Miss – I don’t want to get it wrong!
