To mark its 65th anniversary the Cannes Film Festival is paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe, the late American actress. Monroe is the pin up girl of this year's festival. A black and white image taken by Otto L. Bettman of the iconic 1950s actress blowing out a birthday cake candle is everywhere. The chic sea-front Carlton hotel has an exhibition of photos taken by the late Bruno Bernard of Monroe. Also known as Bruno of Hollywood, Bernard is credited with having discovered Monroe, and of helping her transform from Norma Jean Baker to Marilyn Monroe. RFI spoke to his daughter, Susan Bernard, about her new book depicting 40 shots taken by her father of Monroe.
