This week’s quiz: On 7 July I asked you a question about Mexico’s 1July presidential poll.
You were to send in the name of the winner, the name of his party, and the percentage of votes he won.
This was his third bid for the presidency, and he won by capturing more than half the vote, at 53.1 percent. The candidate right after him – Ricardo Anaya – got only 23.5 percent, so you can see why the win is called a “landslide victory”.
The authorities called the vote on 1 July the largest election in Mexican history, with some 3400 federal, state and local races contested.
In Mexico, the president’s term is for six years; the country is home to 128 million people, and has Latin America’s second-largest economy, right behind Brazil.
Andres Manuel López Obrador will be inaugurated on 1 December.
The winners are: Razia Khalid, a member of the RFI Seven Stars Listeners Club in District Chiniot, Pakistan; RFI Listeners Club members Satyaki Sarkar from Murshidabad, India; Solomon Fessahazion from Asmara in Eritrea, Heimer Sia from Manila, the Philippines and Ralf Urbanczyk from Eisleben, Germany.
Here’s the music you heard on this week’s program:“The Flintstones” theme by Joseph Barbera, Hoyt S. Curtin and William Hanna, performed by the Herb Ellis and Ray Brown ensemble; Rimsky-Korsakov: “The Flight of the Bumblebee”, and “Stand Up”, written and performed by Hindi Zahri.
Do you have a musical request? Send it to firstname.lastname@example.org
