The Palestinian application for full UN membership goes to the Security Council Monday but has little chance of succeeding as Washington has vowed to veto the bid. Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas was welcomed by thousands after putting in the membership bid but some Palestinians fail to see how membership at the United Nations, whatever the status, will help their struggle.
