Making London's bells

Audio 02:48

At 8.12 am local time London's Big Ben and thousands of other bells across the city and country announced the beginning of 2012 Olympic Games. People across the UK rang bells too, no matter how small. Bells have given a special role in the games. The opening ceremony will begin with the ringing of a new 23-tonne bell. The organising committee ordered the bell from the same foundry that cast Big Ben in the 19th century. A visit to the foundry in east London shows how these famous British bells are made.
