Feminist Muslim Sihem Habchi on the burka and women's rights
Play - 21:15
Sihem Habchi says she's proud to be a Muslim, and proud to be a feminist. She's also president of Ni putes ni soumises, a French group that fights violence and discrimination against women. The organisation is currently involved in a heated debate over French government plans to ban the burka in public places. One report says 2,000 women in France wear the all-covering garment. Sihem Habchi explains why she backs the ban and talks about her life, in Algeria, where she was born, and in France.
