President Sarkozy healthy, ready for vacation

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has a clean bill of health, according to a statement released by his office, a year after he collapsed while jogging. On Monday the Elysée presidential palace published the results of cardiovascular examinations showing the 55-year-old leader is in good health.

“The results of these different tests came back normal,” said the report. Sarkozy apparently requested the medical exams himself, which were done at the Val-de-Grâce military hospital in Paris.

Last year, after Sarkozy collapsed while jogging at Versailles on 26 July, he was criticised for not providing enough information about his state of health.

He was briefly hospitalised for what was determined to be fatigue linked to overwork. He underwent no medical treatments.

During his presidential campaign, he had promised to be transparent about his health, something not done by his predecessors.
