Iran: Syria's new mediator?

This weekend, Iran, one of Syria's staunch allies, said it was ready to meet with the Syrian opposition to facilitate dialogue with the government and to host a meeting between the two. Tehran says it has repeatedly offered to help resolve the crisis, but this has been rejected by Syria's opposition. RFI spoke to Mohamad Marandi, professor of American history at the University of Tehran about the situation.
