NFL team owners approved the relocation of the St. Louis Rams to Los Angeles, ending the Californian city's 21-year wait for a team, according to media reports.

The Los Angeles Times reported on its website Tuesday that owners voted 30-2 to approve Rams owner Stan Kroenke's proposal for a $1.86 million stadium in suburban Inglewood, a project that could crack $2 billion before its is completed.

The San Diego Chargers have an option to join the Rams at their new home at a later date.

The Chargers and Oakland Raiders had a rival plan for a stadium in suburban Carson that was backed by an owners committee earlier but failed to obtain the 24 votes needed from owners, who left open the Chargers' relocation option.
