This week’s quiz: On the 12th of June, I asked you a question about Mali’s “coup within a coup”, thus called because there was a coup d’état– the first coup - last August. A transitional government was duly put in place, and elections were announced. Then there was a coup against the transitional government in May, and the transitional president and prime minister were removed. Still with me? I wanted you to tell me the date for the elections which were announced in August, after the first coup.

The answer is: February 2022.  No word since the second coup – the coup within the coup - as to whether or not the original timetable for elections will be held.

The winners are: Dr. Deepa Bain, a member of the RFI Pariwer Bandhu SWL Club in Chhattisgarh, India; Ms. Sadika Khatun, a member of the RFI International DX Radio Listeners Club in West Bengal, India; RFI Listeners Club members Faria Khanam Mumu from Munshiganj, Bangladesh and Alan Holder from the Isle of Wight, England, and RFI English listener Rajia Khatun from Joypurhat, in Bangladesh.

Congratulations winners!

Here’s the music you heard on this week’s programme: Arabesques 1 and 2 by Claude Debussy, performed by Ronan O’Hara; “Kitten Heels” by Amando Sciascia; “The Flight of the Bumblebee” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov; “My Ladie Riche's Galliard”, “Galliard P104”, “Galliard P35”, and “Mr. Giles Hobie's Galliard” by John Dowland, performed by Paul O’Dette, and “Hammadi” by Hassan Ben Jaâfar, performed by Innov Gnawa.
