Bayern, Barca march into Champions League semis
Issued on:
European powerhouses Bayern Munich and Barcelona stormed into the semifinals of the Champions League after convincingly beating Porto and Paris Saint-Germain respectively on Tuesday.
Bayern blew away Porto 6-1 in Munich to win 7-4 on aggregate while Barcelona triumphed 2-0 at home to register a 5-1 aggregate score against the Paris-based clubs.
After losing 3-1 in their first leg, the odds were stacked against Bayern. However, the outcome of the tie was decided in the first half itself as Bayern went 5-0 up. Robert Lewandowski scored two goals while Thiago, Thomas Muller, Xabi Alonso and Jerome Boateng scored one each.
In the other quarterfinal, Brazilian star Neymar scored the two goals in the first half as they cruised to an easy win against the French champions.
The two teams now await the winners of the Juventus-Monaco and Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid encounters.
Juventus beat Monaco 1-0 in the first leg last week while Real and Atletico drew their match 0-0.
