South Africa all at sea against Indian spinners
South Africa were bowled out for a paltry 121 runs in their first innings of the fourth Test against India in New Delhi on Friday.
Issued on:
Left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was the wrecker in chief as he claimed five wickets for 30 runs while R Ashwin, who is the leading wicket taker of the series, claimed two.
AB de Villiers was the only batsman in the South African line up to offer any resistance, making 42 runs.
Earlier, resuming the day on their overnight score of 231 for 7, India posted a respectable total of 334 runs thanks to a brilliant century by middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane who scored 127 runs.
He was ably supported by Ashwin who showed his batting prowess as well by scoring a half century.
Rahane and Ashwin shared a 98 run partnership for the eighth wicket that took their side to a position of strength.
With a 213 runs lead in the first innings, India are now overwhelming favourites to win the Test and wrap the series 3-0. The hosts had earlier won the two matches in Mohali and Nagpur.
